I was so confused in high school when Mark Jenkins, my bible study leader said this phrase, “It’s all about Jesus.” I was a religious teen. I read the bible and learned all I could about God. I prayed and tried to live right. But, I was smothered with guilt about my sin because as hard as I was trying to be a Christian, I was a big phony and a failure. Mark’s phrase was like a crack in a windshield that slowly grew bigger and bigger until it smashed my religion with the fresh wind of the gospel.
All the things we did at church, all the prayer, and all the scripture was all about Jesus. Not only that, but my entire life was all about Jesus. Religion is a distraction because reality is not about ritual, creed, or worship. It’s all about Jesus. Start with that and then the rituals, creeds and worship fall into their place. Sometimes life gets crazy and I start to become distracted. Today, I need to get back to this fact: it’s all about Jesus.
I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. – John 10:9-11
